The Josephine table lamp: a porcelain base with relief decoration and 24-carat gold, and a silk shade.
The Josephine lamp recalls the Empire style of the early nineteenth century. The porcelain base is decorated with relief garlands and borders, and a shade of gathered ivory silk with gold braid completes the silhouette. The small size makes the lamp convenient for a bedside table or a console.
The base and body of the lamp are handmade porcelain, modelled and fired at the Villari factory in Italy; the relief decoration is painted by hand in 24-carat gold. The shade is made of gathered ivory silk with gold braid along the edge.
The compact proportions allow the lamp to stand on a bedside table, console or chest of drawers, singly or as a symmetrical pair. It works well in a bedroom and in a drawing room, where a soft local light is wanted without strict formality.
